The launch of the City of Vaasa’s real estate group is progressing

Ulla Mäki-Lohiluoma from inside the property group to become the CEO

In the spring of 2021, the City of Vaasa decided to establish a real estate group to develop and market its current properties that serve companies as business premises and to act as an active developer and marketer of industrial parks, also in collaboration with the City of Vaasa and the region’s development organisations.

The real estate group’s parent company will provisionally be Palosaaren Yrityskeskus Oy (PYK). The parent company’s Board of Directors consists of Lars-Erik Wägar (Chair), Tapio Ollikainen (Vice Chair), Lotta Alhonnoro, Seppo Hakala, Markku Järvelä and Markku Rautonen. PYK’s current property business will be transferred to a new subsidiary that will be established later this year.

Palosaaren Yrityskeskus Oy’s Board has decided to invite Ulla Mäki-Lohiluoma (MSE, building technologies) to be the Chief Executive Officer of the City of Vaasa’s property group starting from 1 November 2021. She is currently the CEO of Vaasa Parks Oy Ab, among others, and will continue as such.27

The Chairman of the Board Lars-Erik Wägar mentions the schedule as one reason for the choice of CEO.

The best way to start the operations quickly is by employing the people that already work in the group. We felt that inviting Ulla Mäki-Lohiluoma to take on the duties of CEO was the best and natural solution. Ulla is already familiar with the activities of almost all the companies within the real estate group,” he explains.

The preparations for the group will continue with finishing off the business plan and launching the company’s operations. The company is expected to become fully operational in November or December.

I am very motivated to start running the City’s real estate group along with the facilities companies. I can see a lot of opportunities within this new broader system to serve the region’s companies better than ever. We will be able to present good facility options in several places at once on the one-stop-shop principle. We will also be able to make wider use of best practices in marketing and developing our activities and the properties, while taking the City’s industrial policy goals into account,” says Ulla Mäki-Lohiluoma.

The new property group’s largest currently operating companies are Vaasa Parks with its Futura I–IV buildings and Palosaaren Yrityskeskus with its properties on Wolffintie, among others. In future, also the development of Invest In Vaasa and GigaVaasa carried out through NLC Vaasa Oy/Vaasa Parks will be performed through the parent company. The existing personnel will continue to work for the group’s companies under their current employment contracts without losing the employee benefits they have acquired so far.
