10 years of operation celebrated at Futura I

The 10-year old Futura I-house was celebrated on Friday 2.11.2012 with coffee and cake. Over 200 persons from the three Futura-technology houses attended the serving this morning.

The construction of the Futura I-house was commenced in December 2001. Almost two years of planning was behind, and the project was a direct result of an initiative taken by the companies in the region. The City of Vaasa, Technology Centre Oy Merinova Ab, Wedeco and Finnvera together founded a company with the mission to e.g. promote the business park Vaasa Airport Park and to specifically build technology houses. The name of this company was quickly changed from Merinova Kiinteistöt Oy to the one still used today: Oy Vaasa Parks Ab.

Ulla Mäki-Lohiluoma welcomes Yrjö Halttunen, the area manager of FCG (from Futura III), to celebrate the 10-year-old Futura I-house. Yrjö Halttunen was as the CEO of Merinova at the end of the last decade a key person when deciding about the model for building the Futura-houses.

The first Futura-house was ready in late October in 2002. Stage II, i.e. Futura II, was finished in the fall of 2004 and the newest addition, the Futura III, was in operation in early 2009. There are over 50 companies, with about 500 employees, operating in the Futura-houses. A majority of these companies is active in the field of energy technology or a part of the software industry. Many services can also be found within the houses – e.g. companies offering financial management, recruitment and workplace well-being. Two restaurants, three lobby service points and almost ten common meeting rooms are serving in the Futura-houses. The sauna facilities on the top floor of Futura I are at the disposal for the users when informal evening events are to be arranged.

The Futura I-III houses are located at Vaasa Airport Park in the middle of Runsor. In a decade the amount of employees has increased to over 3600 persons.

“We are glad to hear that companies enjoy operating in the Futura-houses. Our business plan has from the start been to offer companies pleasant, modern and cost effective workspace. By offering a vast variety of services we offer the possibility for companies to focus on their core businesses. We use to say that it is enough to bring your own desk, chair and computer – the rest can be arranged by us”, is concluded by Ulla Mäki-Lohiluoma, CEO at Oy Vaasa Parks Ab.

The usage rate of the space in the Futura-houses is for the moment quite high. Still, there is always room for a few more companies, and it is worth getting in touch regarding free space. The planning of the next house, i.e. Futura IV, is in good progress and the construction will soon begin, depending on the needs of the companies in the region.
